Hot white oaks and fresh rubs - October 8 update

First off hope everyone’s season is staying safe and having some luck! Currently we super slow at the shop allowing for some much needed time the woods! We are scouting more than hunting, utilizing rain storms in this warm weather to go slip in some areas and look around with out much noise or scent , really trying to cover some ground and find the food!

During the last such walk I ran into a dropping white oak covered in rubs and the ground is mud with nothing but hoof prints. It’s the Kind of sign you hear about in all the pod casts and what I was brought up hunting. I pinned everything on my HuntStand and know that this is only gonna be this hot for a couple weeks and I have to be here as much as possible, that was 2 days ago. Fast forward to this morning, I drop my son off and school and took off for the woods!

These ebikes make it nice being able to go a long way from the truck fast and without too much noise. This place is about 1.25 miles from the truck and I have to navigate some reeeeallly thick stuff to get in here, so I took my time with the briars and made my way down to the tree. Mind you my goal is to kill a deer with my trad bow no blind on the ground. Wasn’t sat down 15 min and I had a family group of 1 doe and a doe and buck yearlings at 10 yards on the other side of the big poplar I’m set up behind. I was prepped to take the doe as soon as she cleared the tree on a trail no more than 5 yards away. She boogers and runs by me on the other side and they ease out the low side of my setup, when I catch movement on the hill above us and it’s a great buck! Dunno if he bumped em they smelt me or what but he was 30 yards away when he decided to go with them. Nobody knew really what happened so my hopes are high he’ll be back soon… I know I will!

Right now oaks and persimmons are where we are finding the most deer.
